Volunteer

At Urban Discovery Schools we believe in the power of community. We also acknowledge that with the pandemic we are living in a very different time and that we need to innovate our programs. Therefore, our volunteer program is currently taken place on a case-by-case review basis. No, more than ever, we must come together as a community and find ways to innovate to advance student opportunity and achievement. If you are interested in volunteering email [email protected] and you will be connected with a reviewing team member.
Volunteer Notice
For those that are cleared to participate in self-help/on-site projects, you will be required to take part in the Urban Discovery Schools daily health screening and receive an onsite QR code of clearance. You will be required to meet all staff health standards at all times. There will be no volunteering on-site when students are present.

Volunteers should review the guidelines and expectations outlined in the Volunteer Handbook. If you have any questions about volunteering, please ask your classroom teacher or inquire in the school office.

Volunteer Requirements:
  1. Fingerprint Scanning: Parents should print or obtain a fingerprint form (from the office) specific to UDA. The livescan facility will need the ORI code from the form, specific to UDA’s fingerprint clearinghouse, which is A1270. LiveScan services are available on a walk-in or appointment basis at the San Diego County Office of Education's facility in San Marcos or Linda Vista. ID is required for the livescan, and payment must be submitted by money order or cashier's check payable to San Diego County of Education (SDCOE).
  2. Tuberculosis (TB) Testing: The San Diego Unified School District requires all individuals who are in contact with school children be tested and found to be free of tuberculosis. A tuberculin test is valid for four years, and the test may be given by your physician or select pharmacies. Many of the CVS Minute Clinics offer them for approximately $40.
  3. Present a form of current government-issued photo identification (driver’s license, passport, military ID, other government identification).
  4. Complete and submit for approval the UDA Volunteer Application.
