I'm Mari Monroe and I am so happy to be on board as the 7/8 English teacher here at UDA (and happy to announce that I will be teaching Yoga to our middle school students as an elective).
Here's a little bit about me:
I am originally from Northern California and after literally traveling the world, I have found myself down here in San Diego! I completed my Masters Degree in Education and Teaching Curriculum at the University of San Diego, and received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Santa Clara University. I have experience working with students of all ages, including being a swim coach for 8 years, a horseback riding instructor for 4 years, and a ski team coach for 2 years. I lived in Germany for a year abroad, and I worked at a school in Cape Town, South Africa for a summer (and would LOVE to go back!). I am so glad to have landed here in San Diego, for I love how diverse this city is and the culture it brings! Our UDA students are the future!
I live for the “ah-ha!” moments in life. I love the way someone’s eyes light up when they are discussing something they are passionate about. One of the most beautiful things about being human is our ability to care so deeply, reflect so thoughtfully and analyze so critically. If, as a teacher, I am able to pass on these skills, I have succeeded. I'm also an extreme life enthusiast, so if it involves skiing, backpacking, biking, hiking, horseback riding, surfing- I am in. These activities set my soul on fire. But I am equally in love with tranquility, so when the agenda allows for it- yoga, books, coffee, cozy blankets and a warm fire make my heart sing!
I look forward to discovering your child's passions and helping them reach whatever goals they have!
