Notice of Emergency School Closure
March 13, 2020
At Urban Discovery Schools, the health and safety of our learning community is our number one priority. Yesterday I wrote to inform you that we were offering distance learning contracts to families. This was done based upon our understanding of public health officials’ risk assessment of COVID-19.
Yesterday evening, more information about COVID-19 was released. Based upon that information I am writing to inform you that we are closing our schools effective Monday, March 16, 2020. We anticipate reopening on April 6, 2020.
For high school, we have also called a minimum day for today, March 13, 2020. School will be released at 12:30 but we will have faculty and staff here until 4:30 p.m. if you cannot pick your student up from school.
During this time learning will continue. For grades T/K -3 there are learning packets that have been prepared. For grades 4-8 computers will be issued for online learning platforms that the students have been getting to know this week. At high school, students already have a computer device to access online learning platforms.
There will be more information released over the weekend. Please check your email regularly.
I know that for many this is a time of high stress. I urge you to remain calm and have confidence in our local health authorities. I know that closing schools will likely cause tremendous disruption to our families. I also believe that our children and learning community’s health and safety are at the core of concerns and that together we will get through this. Thank you for your trust and support.
For our students,
Shawn T. Loescher, Ed.D.
