ENROLLMENT FOR THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR

Our applications are due the last day of February each year and our lottery will take place the first Friday of March. After the lottery date, admissions will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis pending space in the prospective grade level.

AGE CRITERIA
  • Students who are applying for kindergarten must be at least 5 years old on or before September 1 of the school year. We do not make exceptions to this rule. 
  • Students who are applying for Universal Transitional Kindergarten must turn 5 years old between September 2 and June 2 of that school year. 
 
ENROLLMENT PRIORITIES
Urban Discovery Academy provides a sibling preference to applicants who are siblings of students currently attending Urban Discovery Academy.
 
Urban Discovery Academy provides an employee preference to applicants who are children of employees currently employed by Urban Discovery Academy.
 
Urban Discovery Academy provides a priority preference to applicants whose parents or guardians are currently employed within the 92101 zip code.
 
Urban Discovery Schools defines siblings as children who:
  1. Are biologically related as siblings by one or two shared parents; OR
  2. Are related as step-siblings by parent marriage; OR
  3. Are related as siblings through formal adoption or formal court-ordered guardianship. (A Power of Attorney does not suffice for this purpose.)
  4. Children living in the same household
Application Verification and Successful Completion of Previous Grade 
Initial admissions decisions are conditional. In order to reserve the position prior to full registration, admitted applicants will be required to submit documents confirming zip code of residence, student age as well as successful completion of the previous grade level to the Admissions Office. Applicants who do not submit the required documents by the deadlines will forfeit their admission.
 
CHARTER SCHOOL COMPLAINT FORM

Charter schools are not allowed to discourage a pupil from enrolling or seeking to enroll in the charter school because the pupil exhibits any characteristics such as students with disabilities, academically low-achieving, English learners, neglected or delinquent, homeless, socially economically disadvantaged, foster youth, or based on nationality, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. Charter schools are not allowed to request a pupil's records before enrollment or encourage a child who is enrolled in a charter school to disenroll or transfer to another school. A parent, guardian, or pupil (18 years or older) may file a Charter School Complaint Form to the authorizing entity if they suspect the charter school is in violation of Education Code Section 47605(d)(4).
