Student Enrollment Information

ENROLLMENT FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR (2026-27)
Apply in October for the upcoming school year using the button(s) below. Contact [email protected] or call the school number (619) 788-4668 to schedule a school tour or attend an upcoming open house with our leadership team. Our applications are due the last day of February each year and our lottery will take place the first Friday of March. After the lottery date, admissions will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis pending space in the prospective grade level.

AGE CRITERIA
Students who are applying for Transitional Kindergarten must be at least 4 years old by September 1 of that school year (birthdays between start of school and September 1 will be 3 years of age upon enrollment). Students who are applying for Kindergarten must be at least 5 years old on or before September 1 of the school year. We do not make exceptions to this rule.
 
ENROLLMENT PRIORITIES
Urban Discovery Academy provides the following preferences:
  • Returning or existing students (guaranteed admission if space is available in the appropriate grade).
  • Siblings of returning or existing students (guaranteed admission if space is available in the appropriate grade).
  • Children of Urban Discovery Academy faculty.
  • Pupils residing in the 92101 zipcode (double weighted in lottery).
  • Pupils whose parents or guardians are currently employeed within the 92101 zip code (double weighted).
  • Preference to students zoned for Washington Elementary in SDUSD (double weighted). 
  • All other students who reside in San Diego Unified School District (double weighted).
  • All other students as permitted by law.
Urban Discovery Academy defines siblings as children who:
  1. Are biologically related as siblings by one or two shared parents; OR
  2. Are related as step-siblings by parent marriage; OR
  3. Are related as siblings through formal adoption or formal court-ordered guardianship (Power of Attorney does not suffice for this purpose); OR
  4. Children living in the same household.
Application Verification and Successful Completion of Previous Grade 
Initial admissions decisions are conditional. In order to reserve the position prior to full registration, admitted applicants will be required to submit documents confirming zip code of residence, student age as well as successful completion of the previous grade level to the Admissions Office. Applicants who do not submit the required documents by the deadlines will forfeit their admission.
