STUDENT HANDBOOK
The Urban Discovery Student-Parent Handbook outlines the background, expectations and policies of our unique learning community. This helpful resource offers basic guidelines around school operations that support parents and students in understanding available resources and the parameters of our work together. 
SCHOOL CALENDAR
Keep track of Urban Discovery's School calendars, key dates for enrollment and upcoming events here.
POWER SCHOOL
  • PowerSchool serves as the central database for Urban Discovery Academy. Log in to update student information, family contacts, records & transcripts, and complete registration. 
  • Elementary School Families can log in to monitor student attendance. 
  • Middle and High School Families can log into Power School to monitor students' grades, completion of assignments, and attendance. 
  • For additional IT support, questions regarding devices, or if you do not have internet access at home, please contact, 619-788-4668 or [email protected].
HEALTH, WELLNESS & PREVENTION
At Urban Discovery Academy, we care about the physical and social-emotional wellbeing of every student. It's our goal that our community feel fully supported and aware of the resources available to them. Among our areas of emphasis are key initiatives focused on:
NEURODIVERSITY
Resources related to neurodiversity developed by the University of California and California State University Collaborative for Neurodiversity and Learning are accessible to parents/guardians and students here: https://ca-literacy-dyslexia-collab.ucla.edu/.

RIGHTS, PROTECTIONS, & RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS
If a student lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, they may qualify for supports and protections under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. This also includes unaccompanied youth (a student not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian). Examples of educational rights and resources may include:

  • Immediate enrollment and full participation in school, even if records are not available at the time of enrollment.
  • Access to comparable services and programs available to other students.
  • Transportation assistance, if applicable.


Additional information on homelessness, including information regarding the educational rights and resources available to persons experiencing homelessness can be accessed in our Homeless Youth Education policy: [insert link to the updated policy].  The policy is intended to inform parents or guardians of homeless children and youths of educational and related opportunities available to their children.  Urban Discovery Academy shall provide parents and guardians of homeless youth with meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children.
